Task 2: Styles, Conventions & Techniques Of Music Videos

Styles, Conventions & Techniques Of Music Videos Everything produced in media has codes and conventions and music videos are no exception. A code or convention is like a guideline of rules that music videos often follow that are always dependable on genre or style. The main conventions for music videos relate to camera shots and angles, editing, lyric interpretation, extending or consolidating songs meanings and allusion. Lyric Interpretation - lyrics being shown as a music video and this catches the audiences attention and it could make them sing along or even understand what the song is about. (Lyrical Video from The Chainsmokers - Closer) Extending or consolidating   - Extending or consolidating a song's meaning in a music video is when you use symbolism and things in the mis-en-scene to further push the meaning of the song or to add more of a meaning to a song or to just bring the lyrics together into a visual explanation of what the song actu...

David Assignment (Cadbury Gorilla Ad, Coca-Cola Ad, Galaxy Chocolate (Duet))

Cadbury dairy milk advert (featuring. Phil Collins & Gorilla) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnzFRV1LwIo This advert has been around for ages and i find it memorable by the song & the gorilla that is playing the drums in the background. The song is composed and written by Phil Collins and the tracking title is called "In The Air Tonight". This advert also advertises the famous Cadbury Milk chocolate, but the funny thing is the chocolate wasn't shown whilst the gorilla was playing on the drums… The only time the chocolate was shown was at the end of the advert. From this sort of format the company decided to use the gorilla to catch our attention and then stick on the main bit of advertising at the end with the chocolate to give us the understanding of the whole advert. The target audience would be to kids and adults from all ages, from 3 years of age by the way, because everybody loves chocolate, and you could use chocolate for almost anything to be hon...

29.1 Understanding the purposes of music videos

Purposes of Music Videos Music videos have a purpose and they have a variety of meanings according to the genre of the song too. Some music videos are created to promote the artist, promote the record label, the album or even the song itself. In my report I'm going to talk about how 6 different music videos have 6 different purposes in the industry today. Promotion of an artist's album Promotion of an artist's album can occur through their own record company, a YouTube account or even the song itself being released in to mainstream radio or performed at live events. Normally this would happen before the artist releases the track/album to let the give the fans a warning to was out for their song which is going to come out.  Adele - Hello   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQHsXMglC9A The first song I chose is one of my favourites and most powerful songs out since the closing of 2015. Yes the song is called 'Hello' performed by the almighty Adele and the ...

Homework: Camera Shots Of A Music Video

Lil Wayne Ft. Bruno Mars - Mirror In this music video, the frequently used camera shot was close up and the reason for this is because the song is sad and the director of the music video wants to show Wayne's & Bruno's emotion throughout the 4 mins of the track. There were also shots such as mid-range, tilting, tracking, panning & long shot. Bruno's Close Up With this camera angle been used the viewers of this music video get to see how the artist is feeling whilst the music track continues to play. Panning (3.12 - 3.17 on the music video) The panning was used to create happiness, suspense or tension in either way as Wayne was finishing his spray painting on the wall which could be a sign of happiness infact. Tracking (1.06 - 1.08, 2.32 - 2.38 & the majority of the music video) The tracking shot was used effectively and in a way it relates to panning abit because when it was tracking Wayne's movement the camera was swayi...

Music Video Through The Ages

1920s - Music Video Was Only Shot In One Place And One Continuous Scene 1929 - more scenery was shown with various amount of people in it. 1957 -  close shot and long shots developed giving the viewers a clearer view of how the singer/person is feeling. more camera movement is involved as well. 1960s - a narrator with words printed on a paper was a new style for music videos in the 60s, as the singer would sing, the narrator shows the main words out of the pile of papers he got. usually the main words were the end of each line which would gain the viewers attention. 1966 (The Beatles) - the music video now has colour and it has different video effects which include cutting, fading & box shifting, which helps the video to be more entertaining than standard to the rest of the music videos in that year. 1970s - bits in the music video where the singers don't show their whole body, only their faces were shown which is caused by the lighting or some visual effect done by c...
